Criteria 4. Established "Center" for Cybersecurity

The institution must have an officially established entity (either physical or virtual) serving as the focal point for its cyber curriculum and practice. The 鈥淐enter鈥 shall provide the following services: program guidance and oversight; general cyber defense information; and collaboration and outreach opportunities among students, faculty, and other institutions. Additionally, the 鈥淐enter鈥 must be supported by a website that is current and visible within the institution and the external community at large. The 鈥淐enter鈥 must have an external board of advisors 鈥 local/national industry professionals, faculty from other institutions, etc. to provide programmatic guidance over the activities of the center and the NCAE-C program as a whole. This board provides a connection between the program(s), 鈥淐enter鈥, college/department, and the local community. The external board of advisors can be shared with other programs in the college/department.

Requirements (All needed):听

Provide URL at the academic institution鈥檚 domain to demonstrate that the academic institution has an established Website for the 鈥淐enter鈥 for Cybersecurity including:

  • The 鈥淐enter鈥 Website (URL) is visible within the institution and the external community at large
  • 鈥淐enter鈥 POC is noted
  • Information about and link to the program page of the Validated PoS(s)
  • Faculty members
  • Links to student cybersecurity activities available to students at the institution and beyond
  • News that include both internal and external cybersecurity news. Internal news should highlight cybersecurity activities and efforts at the institution and/or other cybersecurity activities of students and faculty representing the institution. External cybersecurity news should highlight up-to-date trending cybersecurity information
  • Link to the institutional security resources and awareness
  • Up-to-date links to key cybersecurity resources for students such as cyber competitions
  • Documentation on the Industry Advisory Board/Committee.

Here are initial answers to the above areas of focus.

B. The points of contact for the center are myself and Kim Preece. We can create or supply photos for that section.

C. This should link to the Network Systems & Security program page. We may actually say on the Center website that the Network & Cloud Systems Administration program is a National Security Agency designated Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity Program of Study.

D. We could list all faculty that teach in the Network Systems & Security program 鈥 Myself, Scott Nicholas, Gary Brafford鈥ould even list adjuncts I suppose鈥randen Richmond and Trey Balser as well. They were part of my submission for the PoS, so it would make sense.

E. I would love this section to be easily updated by me (or you) to keep this section current. Somethings here will be somewhat static. For example, we have a cybersecurity club, we are member of the National Cyber League, and also the NCAE Cyber Games. While guest speakers, the West Virginia Cybersecurity Expo, and other current events may be timely and topical.

F. This section may bleed in a bit with the current and timely events of part E.

G. This might be a section we defer to Gordon on for links and information.

H. See part E again.

I. This area would be representative of our IT Advisory Committee. We could get a list of the companies that are regular members, or potential get their company logos like UCCS has on their CAE Center page.
